I don't think they'll win the championship but you'd be a fool to write them off completley. I'm sure they still win races

IMO they are too big a team to effectively throw in the towel after some poor showings, they'll be back let's just make the most of it whilst they are down on their luck

I believe that this years championship is open. The results have shown that at the moment Renault Maclaren and Toyota are able to take wins. I believe that MS will win this season ( if he was able to win 3 races in 1996 in that car he can definitely win this year) and also BAR might get a win this year ( i know some of you think that they are lost this year but i believe they can pull it of by midseason).

Ferrari should write off this year and start developing the V8 now
The McLaren is unstoppable, no point trying to fight back
I think Ferrari should aim for 5th if they are not going to win as that way they get a 3rd car in 2006

Yep, that's the attitude a team should take

Well the 3rd car has worked spectacularly well for McLaren with their impending WDC and WCC so why should Ferrari not aim for the 3rd car ?
There is as much chance of Ferrari winning the WCC this season as there is me being the next pope so if a team is going to not win they might as well become 5th and make it worth their while

You really think that a team should give up after five races? I don't think a team should ever give up even if the championship is lost. What is the point in being in F1 if they gave up? If they did that they might as well quit the sport. And according to your logic, everyone other than McLaren, Renault and Toyota should give up and not care about the season.
That statement is f*cking rediculous CT. You should think about things more carefully before say them.

Disagree Bryan
This season is a write off in terms of championships so the best thing to do is stop development on the F2005 or at the very least wind it down and put all the resources towards the F2006 and the V8 engine and put the focus on those so that the F2006 is the class of the field
Why waste valuable development resources on a car that is not in the same ballpark as the MP4/20 or the Renault ?
I refer you to a quote of Ron Dennis "2nd means nothing, it just means you are the highest placed LOSER" and that is very true, Ferrari culture is all about winning so is McLaren culture, 2nd place for Ferrari this year would be considered dishonour in Maranello so play tactically and go for the 3rd car

Ferrari have a FQ car. Their problem is Bridgestone at the moment.

It's only the 5th race for f*ck sake. And even when the championship is won there are still races to be won. If you think everyone should give up then why do you bother watching F1?
You are crazy

I don't just watch F1 for Ferrari
If they pulled out of F1 tomorrow I would still watch every single race live and even if Ferrari ended up back of the grid like they did in 1980 I would still watch it, I support F1 first and Ferrari second
But having said that I DO want to see Ferrari win both WDC and WCC each season

Hey F1 does go in cycles remember. They've had a good run for the last little while, now its someone elses turn. They'll be back though, but its going to take wrk. The championship may be gone for them, and they probably realise that, but that doesn't mean they are going to give up. They will still try to get back to the top as fast as possible, just that this year is gone, doesn't mean they won't try though.
TheRealCT

Of course they should try etc but my point was every $1 spent developing the F2005 towards a championship that can't be realistically won barring a miracle is $1 less to spend next season
Why are Renault so strong ? they started concentrating on 2005 in about June 2004 long before any other team

According to you teams should give up if they don't think they can win the championship. You can't be a true fan of F1 if you want any team to give up.

There is a difference between giving up and reducing/stopping development on a car
I simply think that money is better off spent concentrating on 2006 and if 2005 goes well its an added bonus
Of course I want to see Ferrari win both titles in 2005 but regrouping and coming back extra strong in 2006 is also a viable option
Renault sacrificed 2nd in the WCC last season by stopping development on last years car last June, it works

If they can get the tyre issue sorted out they'll do OK. Bear in mind they've greater reliability than McLaren......
