buy a car in haste wacky.gif

Which is what I did last week and am now sorely and very embarrassingly regretting... yes, being the typical woman I went against all the advice to stick out the wait and get the vw golf but oh no, I couldnt wait coz I am a woman and we're impatient little cretins at times and insisted on getting the bright ( and I mean flouro, in yer face, scooby doo mystery machine) green 206 convertible. ......

and its shit!!

I'd tell anyone never ever in a million years get one, they drive like shit, they rattle, they feel like you are driving a car thats 20 years old instead of 2years old, ok they look kinda cute but thats where the market for them ends... they are hairdressers cars, single girls cars... my kids love it .. I'm going to break their heart by telling them that as soon as the documents are back its getting traded in.... for another BMW .... they may have a reputation but god damn they can drive and they can drive well!! thumbs.gif

And because I am too embarrassed to go outside and take a phone cam picture of my car I've got one from the net for you to see lol!!
Bryan
That sucks plthumbsdown.gif

 I thought you were getting the Golf, I must have missed a post or two, or did you not tell us?

Sorry to hear about your bad luck Christie, my 10 penneth worth would say go back to procuring the Golf, it is far less likely to be vandalised than a beemer and I think that was your major reason for changing.
Miowmix
aww well I'll live and learn, its not horrendous... its just not what you'd expect from an 18month old car. I can make money on it anyway as it came from a very good dealer friend and I bought it off him at the same price he paid for it and the car is bonny to look at it and for all senses and purposes its actually drives fine to the normal person.. itjust doesnt drive as nice as my BMW did and thats why I dont like it.

I'll wait til the docs come back, give the kids a month of roofless fun to get it out of their system and then get rid.

Stranger.. I've heard rumours thru the traders we deal with that the 5th gen Golf is not as selling well as it was supposed to and thats why there are quite a fair few 04/54 ones about at very competitive prices compared to the last model. headscratch.gif
delibird
I used to have a black one of those, with the twin headlamp converters when they first came out. Absolutely loved it in the summer, but the boyfriend decided to get rid of it when one day all the lights failed when he was driving down a dark country lane. He told me it was starting to leak as well.

I have to say I cried, not sure if that was becasue he decded to get rid of the convertible, or because he was buying a 307 to replace it.

But I know what you mean they drive like a tank, and that gear stick can be freezing in the winter, oh and the Radio could never pick up medium wave
Miowmix
hugz.gif thanks Deli ... I needed a fellow girlie to tell me it isnt my imagination the way it drives thumbs.gif
Yeah I've heard the rooves can be a bummer for leaking.

I wanted the 307cc but this years budget didnt stretch to it .. maybe next year.
Scream'n_Demon
I hear the gearboxes are shit in those. I also hear BMW's quality is going down the shitter with new modes too.
delibird
the two 206s we have owned have leaked headscratch.gif and we had to have the gearbox fixed on the CC

but the boyf (who used to work for Peugeot) has nothing bad to say about the 307CC and he did like driving the normal 307 that we had. I hated it though, it was way too high off the ground, but I am assuming that the CC version must be lowered biggrin.gif

I would never buy a Peugeot now just because of the poor level of service that I received from their service staff.
When I took the CC in about the radio not picking up medium wave (bearing in mind it was less than a year old) I was told that the reason was becuase "the radios are crap, so you'll just have to listen to FM".....the next time I had a choice over our car I dragged the boyf to the nearest VW dealership and made him buy a Golf biggrin.gif
Scream'n_Demon
European cars are a pain in the arse in general. Buy a Jappa, or an american, or even an aussie car, at least they last longer.
Stranger
Having owned 3 Renaults I've had no problems until this one.

I've had problems with; leaks on both back and front windows, climate control, parking sensors, rattles (too many to mention), knocking from front offside (possibly driveshaft) at first set off after a night stood on the drive (still not rectified), noisy heater fan, rear windscreen wash (it was like an old guy with a prostate problem ..... a dribble), auto wipers not functioning correctly in the winter. Apart from the knocking they have all be sorted out however I am quite good friends with the general maanger of the dealership and without that I think I would been lucky to get them all sorted.

Despite everything I would have a Renault again and will probably get another Megane when I change although I'll be having a diesel next time as this 1600 petrol has no go in it whatsoever which is strange as the other 2 I've had have been brilliant engines.

Don't get me started on Vollies laugh.gif

Mate of mine has a 307 diesel and he loves it although he is currently looking at getting one of the Megane Coupe Cabriolets.

I wholeheartedly agree with Scream'n about buying Japanese as I didn't have one problem with either my Subaru or my Honda.
Miowmix
I never had any probs with any of my vollies ever Stranger me ole mucker Beu2.gif .. but the C70's ( which is what I want next ) are so expensive even at trade price.

This peugot cc was a total whim buy.. the kids have been harassing about a cabrio ever since their grandad got rid of his cabrio beamer .. so this car is for them really. I honestly never ever expected such a SHIT ( and thats the only way to describe it) drive from such a young car.
The current plan is to keep it for a month or so to keep the kids happy and then get rid.. It was only ever going to be a 'summer' car but I never thought I'd dislike a car so much once I owned it that looked sooooo cute when it belonged to someone else lmao!!!

The 206 is just too small for me... I hate small cars .. what on earth possessed me to get one wacky.gif plthumbsdown.gif
I'm either going back to BMW ( a nice 330 will do me lol) or I'll get meself a chelsea tractor and really piss the neighbours off laugh.gif laugh.gif
Lynda
It does look nice and stands out which I like, but it's a great shame it's crap.....but well done on not getting silver !!
Love Lynda XX. biggrin.gif
Stranger
Nissan Patrol is a nice size, just big enough for the kids - about a dozen of them laugh.gif
Mclaren_Fanatic
Sorry to hear that. BTW the Golfs are nice little cars thumbs.gif
Miowmix
lol Stranger.. well I dont plan on having anymore to fit into a Patrol but they are very nice. I spoke to the sister in law last night that wants one of these peugots and have given her first refusal on it at a very good price ( I will be making money on it as I paid trade for it but whoever gets it is going to get a very good deal compared to others that are for sale in this area)

I've got a 51plate 323 coupe to look at at some point this week but its forest green  puke.gif

I also drove my dads golf last night and I've come to the conclusion that they are too small as well ( I'm used to bloody big vollies remember lol) ... I dont feel any driving confidence in smaller cars and I cant park them to save my life yet I'll swing a bloody great volvo in a midget sized gap no problem.

As to the vandalism thing... was thinking... I only changed the beamer coz it got vandalised.. I did what whoever vandalised it wanted me to do and that was be affected by it..... so if I go out now and get another one its two fingers up their arse so to speak thefinger.gif
If only BMW did some more brighter and younger colours plthumbsdown.gif
Stranger
Sounds good Christie thumbs.gif I do think you get accustomed to a cars size, when you say about squeezing a vollie into a tight spot with no hesitation and I think going smaller doesn't always make it any easier.

I entered a 5th gear competition to win a new 3 series last week and TBH I'd be chuffed to bits if I won it.

I'm helping sort out a car for someone who works for me, there's no spare money flying about as she's off on maternity leave before too long, but I know I'll get her a good un, just as I did for a mate a few months back but when it comes to myself pffffffffffffffffffft no chance - my Renault doesn't hit the spot, if you know what I mean, and I had lined up a Freelander diesel only to find out today that it had been sold, there's plenty about I know but this one really appealed to me and I always think it's like buying a house you just know if it's right or not and this one felt right.

Tell you one thing I 'aint buying brand new again with the money I saved on Mrs S' Modus, and despite what I said above I'm not over enamoured with the build quality on the new Megane.
Miowmix
I've just come across an absolute minter freelander for £8k ... fully loaded with leather interior thumbs.gif
I'm looking at a 51 3 series compact for the second time in an hour or so.. and I've seen a y plate 325i this morning. The compact has taken my heart , its very cute.. the compact and the 325 are both the same price and the men are saying go for the 325 but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally like the compact ... will just see what he is willing to offer on my pug.

I cant stretch to a decent c70 and him indoors doesnt want a s60 so I'm 99.9% we're on our way back to BMW .. watch this space thumbs.gif laugh.gif
Anthony
You want a 3 Series Compact over a 325? No wonder you ended up getting the 206cc!

Anyway, what's the price difference and specs difference?

I would definitely go with the 325. It's more spacious and I'd have thought its performance is better than the Compact.
Stranger
I'm with Anthony on this one go for the 325i.

The compact is only half a car someone chopped off it's arse. That said someone at work has one in that pastel green metallic and I have to say it looks pretty good but nowhere near as good as a 325i thumbs.gif

BTW I found a new model Freelander TD4 auto on a 54 for 14k which I didn't think was bad and this morning I found a BMW 320d SE auto on an 03 for 16k so I might be having a look at the both of them this weekend, it's the diesel auto I'm after and then again do I simply go for a Suzuki Jimny at 11k and have japanese reliabilty and switchable 4WD for much less money plus they are supposed to be really good fun for a bit of green laning biggrin.gif

Suzuki Jimny mecry.gif hugz.gif
I take it you've read the reviews wink.gif ... cheap wind in your hair fun but too many driving shortfalls according to one source but tis cheap and cheerful lol!!

This freelander I've seen is a bloody cheap car ... I'd be tempted meself if I was looking for something older

"LAND ROVER Freelander 1.8 XEi Anniversary 50 SW , 5 Doors, Manual, Station Wagon, Petrol, 1999 T Reg , 54,000 miles, Metallic Atlantis Blue, 1 Owner. 1 of only 500 manufactured, Leather, Air Conditioning, CD Multichanger, 16" Alloys,ABS,Traction,Electric Sunroof,Electric Windows, Electric Mirrors, Power Steering, Roof Rails, Side Steps,Comprehensive 6 months Warranty" ... its in MINT condition and only £7995 ... I know you are looking for something better but having been up close and personal to this one I think its a vereeeeeeee niced freelander thumbs.gif

......................................

As for the 325 v the compact... I know I'm crazy but I am a woman lmao ... even the sales guy said he cant believe I prefer the compact to the 325 considering they are the same price lol! The 325 is a Y reg and the compact is actually a Feb 02 car on a 51 plate...... anyway to cut a long story short...... I've gone for the compact and all fingers and toes crossed it should be delivered by lunchtime today thumbs.gif
Stranger
Best of luck ............. loser wink.gif

I think the Jimny is out anyway as I'm a big chap (tall not fat biggrin.gif ) but I am going to look at a Vitara diesel this weekend along with the beemer.

Vitara is sooooooooooooo cheap it's worth having a look even if I just buy it to sell on *kerching*
Miowmix
well this much I do know.. once you've had a BMW nothing else ( par uber luxury marques) drives as nice thumbs.gif

Heres my baby!! wub.gif
Stranger
It looks very nice clap.gif here's to you both having a long and harmonious relationship thumbs.gif
Miowmix
heheheh heres hoping.. I've had a quick blast to tesco and back in it and she drives beautifully and has bags more pull than my last beamer but this is 2litre compared to the 1900... cant drive any further until I get some tax...was getting it today but the dealer phoned me before he left to say he'd forgotten to get its mot certificate issued this morning coz he is chaotic at the moment... so I've got it booked in at half eight in the morning for its mot ... the dealer is paying the bill for that so I'm not fussed.. will just stick our trade plates in it tonight and get some tax on it tomorrow. I've gotta go Southport tomorrow in it to look at a couple of V-max's... him indoors has decided to fairweather lol.... says he is too old for sports bikes now ( too bloody fat more like) laugh.gif

LOL sometimes its best to buy to sell on.. its bollocks when we say we dont have profit in cars anymore.. I bought the cc for 9.5k, told this dealer I paid 11.5 for it and he gave me 10.5 back so I made a grand out of shit car .... he thought I'd be gutted at losing a grand in seven days but I wasnt letting on lmao wink.gif whistle1.gif

I've always liked Vitaras.. dunno what they are like to drive but I like their chunkyness thumbs.gif
Stranger
Nice quick way to earn a grand, most I've ever made on buying and selling in one go is £500.

Well I've done it, nahh not bought a car, I gave in to my cravings for another scooby, I'm off to look at a Forester this weekend too ........ busy weekend ahead I'm glad Mrs S is going out on Saturday, I'll try and get the beemer and the Suzuki looked at then.

Glad your compact is proving a good buy for you thumbs.gif
Miowmix
ooooh scooby doooby doooooooo thumbs.gif
Someone at school has got a brand spanker Evo ... looks very very nice, in black too!
Con hates the car.. he loved that god damn awful cc wacky.gif He is refusing to go in it.. which is fine, he can walk to school on Monday thefinger.gif
Anthony
I hope it goes well for you number1.gif biggrin.gif

I still can't believe you took the Compact over the 325 despite being the same price. Where's the thud smilie? wtf.gif laugh.gif
delibird
well I would have chosen the compact biggrin.gif but then again I like smaller cars. Glad you like the new bemmer, it looks lovely thumbs.gif

I'm looking at getting myself a 1 series in the new year, if I can get a teaching job in September biggrin.gif
Lynda
I like the new car and it's not silver either !! Good job on the profit too, but why didn't you let your pal have it ?
Love Lynda XX. smile.gif
Miowmix
The 325 was silver laugh.gif

It was my sister in law, Lynda hun... She didnt have the cash until the 18th of this month (she was going to use part of her divorce settlement lol) and I needed the money there and then for the other car... to be honest.. I dont think I'd inflict the crapness of the 206 on anyone I knew ... daftest thing is, I was pre-warned before I bought one by loads of traders that they were shite to drive... I just didnt listen lol

206 cc ... stands for 206 crap car plthumbsdown.gif

Deli ... I adore the 1 series wub.gif hugz.gif A friend of mine traded her new mini in for a 1 series and she is totally head over heels in love with it. She didnt like the drive of the mini at all.. said even though its BMW mini it felt really cheap in comparison to the 1 series handling and comfort wise. If I stumbled across a large bag of cash I'd be straight to Derek Woodman ( our dealer) and be purchasing a 120i ... and moaning about how scandalously expensive BMW are with their optional extras packages heheheh

My compact is fully loade which is what made it soooo appealing to buy..I tried the cruise control on Sunday on way to Chorley to look at more motorbikes .. not sure I like it tho, I prefer to drive normally.. park distance control is great.. now I dont have to use my bumpers as pdc hehehe
Anthony
The question is, why didn't you test drive the 206cc before you bought it? headscratch.gif

It was a trade deal ... I was warned beforehand that they drove like shit but I passed it off as a male opinon of a girlie car.... hence me being totally embarrassed now at buying it... hindsight and all that lol!!

When you are in the trade you trust the people you deal with.... we are very well known and respected throughout this area .. we dont buy shitters and no-one would ever try and sell us one. There was technically nothing wrong with the 206, infact if I'd have been ten years younger and I'd only ever had little 'cheapies' like saxos, 106s etc then it would have driven like a dream to me but you cannot compare it to a BMW wink.gif

I've never test driven any car I've owned... the 206 is the only one I've ever taken a dislike to and thats purely my own fault for not listening to men lol!!
Lynda
I wasn't that bowled over by the BMW 1 Series but I saw one in the flesh the other week and though it was gorgeous....it was black.
Love Lynda XX. thumbs.gif
