Chuffing car insurance ............ £400 it's cost me for next year that's fully comp protected etc, and I admit that's not a bad price for a 2004 MY 1600cc car but, what riles me everytime I deal with insurance is that I am forking out some part of my earnings to support the claims made by scum that drive around with no insurance.

Why don't the DVLA and Police have a crack down on this, imagine all the drivers who've never passed their test, once they were identified this would remove some of the uninsured drivers from the equation and also mean there are less cars on our overpopulated highways and byways.

The Police should have the right to ask any driver to produce their documents at any time and if someone is found to be driving without insurance they get a lifetime ban and have their vehicle sold with the proceeds going to our underfunded Police force, I wouldn't have an issue with that, I'm sure someone on here will say it's an infringement of civil liberties but IMO if you've nothing to hide it's not a problem.

I'm interested to know others' thoughts.

lol mine is a couple of thousand.. but its a trade policy so basically I can drive anything I'm given permission to drive ... luckily I dont have to pay it but I have recently been getting quotes for a private insurance policy as with trade policies, if anything happens to your car then you only get trade money back not retail. I came a cropper with the rs that got stolen several years back, I only got a few thousand back for it and without gap insurance I was left with a finance bill to settle and no car to show for it.
The best quote I could get for private insurance was around £450 and thats with 5 years no claims from the trade policy honoured. tut.gif

Insurance companies are the biggest f*cking scam artists. People pay for insurance, so if something happens to thier stuff ( a car in this instance) they can get those things replaced. How often does that happen?? They are a bunch of thieving f*cken wankers, who would sell thier grandmas for a free set of knives.

OMG thats just reminded me of a bizarre news story I saw recently in the local press.... I bet I cant find a link now though, but it was basically, 'car criminal done good' story about a serial joy rider who was now working in motor insurance :xmaslaugh:

I nearly pissed meself laughing and wondered how many 'hot hatch' details he was writing on the back of his hand to remember for future reference xmaswink.gif xmasgrin.JPG

I just rang my current insurers to get my renewal quote, so that I could compare it to some other quotes I've acquired and was told "we send the renewal quote out 24 days prior to the date for renewal, so you won't get it until after the 4th January 2005" when I asked if there was anything logged on the system their reply was "we're moving on to a new system in the new year so I can't tell you at this time."

I'm trying to save myself the hassle of changing if their renewal quote is anywhere near the best quote I have, whilst at the same time generating continued business for them, you think they'd be trying a bit harder :pity:

have you tried www.moneysupermarket.co.uk ?

You put your details in and they get all the quotes from the net for you.

Cheers Christie, I've already tried them along with its4me.com, Marks and Sparks, Asda etc oh and I also tried confused.com on the recommendation of a friend and gave up to it half way through as it was very confusing laugh.gif

M & S came out best, but having received my documentation yesterday I've just rung them and told them and told them to cancel it, things such as "we'll hold on to your credit card details and automatically renew in 12 months" and some other shit such as taking my payment today when my cover doesn't start till 28th Jan anyhow I'm not in a mood for messing about this morning so I hit them where it hurts (in their pocket).

Mine's under £200 but is a diddy wee car and I'm not a youngster.....
A pal of mine moved to Austria and over there their insurance is displayed on their screens like our tax discs. They should start that here so if they're not displayed they're not to be on the road.

They were indeed Jo, they found the best price with some freebies that we would have had to pay extra for with nearly all other companies (free courtesy car etc).

To cap it all the company they found is the same one that she's with but her existing 'broker' said they couldn't find anyone to insure her because her car is such a new model ......... funny how they managed to change her cover for the 2 months since she changed her car and charge her £25 for doing it when it's actually a cheaper premium ........ bastards.

I've spotted Tesco advertising that they're giving male drivers as well as females 10% off now too.

I wouldnt touch tesco insurance with a bargepole ..... my brother and sister in law were with them... in bad weather last year my brother spun on black ice on his way to work and ended up with his car sat in the guard rail of the motorway slip road... luckily he wasnt hurt but unluckily for them they were insured with tesco. My sister in law was 7 & 1/2 months pregnant at the time and due to a medical condition needed daily monitoring at the maternity unit. Tesco were supposed to supply them with a courtesy car but failed, next they said hire a car and they would pay so she hired a car for a couple of weeks ( in line with the specs they said they would pay for) as she couldnt afford any longer at the time and tesco would only pay all the costs upon their car being fixed. My brother wanted his car to come to us to be repaired but Tesco insisted it had to go to their garage which is fair enough but it took weeks to repair because tesco only sent the cars to one garage in this area and they had a backlog of work... it would have been with us 7-10 days max ... In the end my sister in laws father contacted the local press and tesco insurance was given a real slamming on our local action desk for sloppy service ... after that they pulled their finger out.. got her a courtesy car , paid for upfront by them, sent flowers to my sister in law and offered them a big discount when they renewed their insurance... naturally told them were to stick their gestures wink.gif

They are actually with the post office now thumbs.gif

Interesting...I wasn't aware they were crap, but then you never are unless someone tells you....I've personally been with Diamond the past five years. Every year I shop around, find a cheaper quote and they match it.

As I am a full time university student living away from home, I rarely get to drive my dad's car so a 52 week insurance policy would have been slightly wasted. Thankfully, we came across Churchill, who've offered us 'temporary additional driver' which gives me insurance for a maximum of 90 days, which suits me fine. Saves my dad a lot of money. number1.gif

And yes, insurance companies are generally money grabbing scams. Last year, I had just passed my test a couple weeks after my dad had renewed his insurance with Prudential. They knew he couldn't really go to another company, so my insurance cost £855 just as a third driver alone - not including the two other drivers on the policy. Bastards. Too bad for them we are no longer their customers number1.gif

Diamond offered me the best independant quote too when I was going to take my no claims from the company policy and go solo. They seemed really nice to deal with... still umming about taking a separate policy at the moment

christ.. I just realised my new car is insurance group 11... think I'll stick with the company trade policy tut.gif wacky.gif

As an aside, my car is Group 3 BUT the VW Lupo version was group 13 !!!
