The A1 Grand Prix series has been launched in London and is being promoted as the winter alternative to Formula One. The A1 Grand Prix series is the idea of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum al-Maktoum of the Dubai royal family.
The idea is to have identical cars built to the same specifications by Lola in which twenty drivers will compete for national teams.
"It brings the national element into it," the Sheikh told the BBC. "It will be truly country versus country."
The series is not scheduled to start until next Autumn. "Formula One is exciting in its own way," he added. "We're now entering a new section of the market which hasn't been tapped - the winter months."
Formula One breaks from the end of October until the new season starts in March.

I for one think that this will be a great series and will show who the great drivers are since the are in the same cars. Could it take over from F1?
