Good news for V8 street race
10 September 2004
"Today's signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transit is good news for the proposed V8 Supercar street race and a positive demonstration of the relationship between Transit and Auckland City," Mayor Hon John Banks said today.
Auckland City Council chief executive Bryan Taylor signed the MoU with Transit chief executive Rick van Barneveld.
Over the past three weeks Transit and Auckland City have agreed what the key issues are and have prioritised what work is required before and after consent.
The MoU is viewed as an important step towards resource consent for the event as Transit will now work alongside Auckland City to acquire the additional information the commissioners have required. It has been agreed that consultants from both organisations will jointly carry out the work and develop briefs together.
Mr Banks said the MoU is a clear sign of Transit and Auckland City working together collaboratively and demonstrates a strong spirit of co-operation.
"I thank Transit for their work to date and for their commitment to this MoU, the process, and constructively working through the traffic and travel demand issues and modelling with us. I also acknowledge the leadership of Mr van Barneveld in making this MoU a reality."
Mr Banks said the event has huge value for New Zealand and the MoU gives Auckland a greater chance of securing it.

I doubt it will go ahead, because by the time we get our act together and decide to hold the race, IMG will have re-contracted it to another circuit, or just given up completely!!
It happened with the rugby WC, now its happening with the V8s!!!
f*ck THE ANTI V8 PEOPLE!
f*ck THE NORTH SHORE CITY COUNCIL!

I almost forgot about that. Would have been great to have co-hosted the Rugby World Cup in 2003. Dam politics :pity:

Personally I hate Street courses especially mickey Mouse ones like Auckland has planned
No other track in NZ currently suits the V8's for providing a good race(Puke is just too simple and short)
The New track planned for Meremere sounds like the go to me.

Adelaide is sometimes called the best street circuit in the world... do you think thats a mickey mouse circuit? I think its one of the best races of the year, and sells the most tickets bar Bathurst

puke is confirmed for week after rally next year and a V8 race will be held somewhere in the country for the next 10 years
Adelaide is one of the Better street circuits in the world and unlike Jafalands planned circuit it has many better features and with the city spending 45 million to bring it back to the full F1 version of old it will be better still.
That said I still think street circuits are not where its at for providing good racing, Just because more people go to a track to watch doesnt make it a good race circuit. Street circuits may provide a party atmoshere for sure and they are dead easy to get to but still teams hate them the carnage rate is easily higher than traditional circuits passing is often few and far between.
for greater clarification my Mickey mouse street circuits include
Wellington
Maccau
Florida, Dallas, hell dam near all American attempts at a street circuit bar maybe the old Longbeach version
Monaco
Im sure there are many others

haha, I suppose you haver a point. I thought you meant all street circuits, not just selcted ones.
I also think the auckland layout is terrible, looking somewhat like the gold coast circuit, which, according to my old man who raced a porsche there in the early 90's, "is like a go kart track". I thought the circuit would be far better based around quay st, but I don't really care as I long as I can go and watch the race, and to be honest I don't care what the rest of the circuit is like as long as I get to see some crashes!!! lol
