SD... I'm sure it was you who said you work in a karting arena... I have been karting a few times now... and I am... believe it or not quite quick for an average punter... I've always made the final eight and came in 8th twice, 7th 6th and 5th... but the guys at the front
(who have their own helmets, fire proof balaclavas, and gloves) seem so much quicker... I've tried watching their line and braking points but they seem to get much better drive outta the corner... if you had to give advice and few trade secrets to improve the average Joe... what would they be... and what's is the most common faults the amatuer has...
Sorry to talk shop... but I just wanna challenge for the lead in a final...

well its hard to say what your doing wrong without actually seeing you drive, but here are some basic things some people get wrong.
1) Practice. The more practice you do, the smoother you get. The smoother you get, the faster you go. People expect that if they take the same line as someone they should be just as fast, but being smooth is far more important.
2) Hold your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel and keep them there!
3)Don't worry so much about brakes. use the throttle to control the kart. Take your foot out of it on entry to the corner, and plant it once the kart is turning nicely. DO NOT go into a tight corner at full speed. what you are aiming for is a tidy controlled slide, not sideways, but not entirely staight either.
4) The better drive you get out of a corner the faster you go. start wide, come in and hit the apex, and accellerate away. Indoor karting relies heavily on exit speed so maximise this and you will maximise your speed on the straights.
5) On the start grid (assuming you do a standing start) give the kart half throttle while holding your foot on the brake. watch the red lights go out (not the green lights come on), release the brake and plant the throttle.
Thats about all I can think of, reply if you still have trouble and I'll see if I can help you out a little more. The best way to go faster is to sit behind someone you know is quick and follow them, watch how they enter corners etc. Thats how I learned. :thumbs.gif:

I think it's more the smothness thing with me tend to be a wee bit too fast into the corner compromising the exit... I will try to take a little less speed in for smooth exit next time out... and forgo the possible final place... just to try and get my times down... as you know it's not always possible to take a wide line and hit the apex when there's someone breathing down your neck... LOL.. thanks anyway... I'll give it ago... :thumbs.gif: :thumbs.gif:
